Weekly Kid's Co-Op: Valentine's Day Threading Craft

"Love is in the air, every where I look around..." Okay! That's enough of those lyrics.

I have recently found an activity that is working to bring Chook into his body and calm down from excitement or upset. Threading. I posted some of our recent threading sessions on our Facebook Page. But today I want to share with you these gorgeous bracelets that Chook made for us all :)
Valentine's Day Threading Craft
Our threading sessions normally involve a small basket of wooded beads and pipe cleaners. I find that pipe cleaners are best for little hands as it provides stability and reduces the level of frustration threading onto string can often have when you are just learning.

To create these cute heart bracelets I used my single hole punch to make two holes in each foam heart. I did need to press hard and pull the little circle away from the heart.

I then folded the end of the pipe cleaner into a shape that would stop the beads from being pushed off but also allowed me to access the end to join the bracelet ends when he was finished threading.
I showed him that you can thread the heart onto the pipe cleaner through both holes and the heart sits flush and really stands out on the bracelet.

But as you see toddlers will do things in the way they feel comfortable :) However, I know his busy little mind has taken my example in and sometime in the future I shall see a heart threaded through both holes. It is for this reason that I will continue to include the hearts in our threading sessions beyond Valentine's Day :)
