Expectations of Motherhood

My Expectations

When I went on maternity leave I had it in my mind what the time at home was going to be like.

Expectations

I had visions of myself having time to preprepare meals, freezing meals in advance and having baked goods ready to go. I had visions of time to clean the house and time to craft. I had visions of playing with my children in an organised home with delicious smells wafting from the kitchen.

REALITY!! I have been on maternity leave for two and a half years now and my life is nothing like the dream I sold myself! Granted having twins wasn't part of the plan!

I cannot put my finger on why the expectations I had for myself are so unattainable. It seems that there are other mum's out there that can do it, so why can't I? Cas from ClutterBug.Me hit on an excellent point in her post Busy Mom Tips. She said "the mum with the perfect home probably doesn't have 6 kids and the mum who always creates such beautiful crafts probably doesn't have a perfect home".

Why aren't I meeting those expectations?

The thing is though, I don't think my expectations are asking too much. I only have four kids. I live in a small house so not much space to mess up. The littlies have an afternoon sleep and both husband and teenage son are very helpful.

It must be the way I am doing it. Maybe I am doing things the hard way. Maybe I am lazy.

Maybe I procrastinate too much. For example, right now the twins and my toddler are having their afternoon nap and my teenager is at the skateboard park. Perfect opportunity to sweep and mop the floors. But instead here I am doing my first ever blog. Isn't that procrastination?

Meeting my expectations

Tell you what for the next week I am going to identify missed oppurtunities where I could have done something towards meeting my expectations. And I am NOT going to feel bad that I missed the opportunity. I am going to take note of it and after the week start to fine tune a rhythm that will work for me.
