Our Morning Routine

Morning Routine
After being prompted by The Organised Housewife to review our morning routine, I sat down one naptime and did just that. It's great to give things a tweak and I feel really happy with what I have come up with!

5am Rise and Shine
Get up, shower and dress.
Make up and hair.
Prepare morning tea, lunch and dinner.
Breakfast prep.

6:30am - 7:30am Kids Care
Wake Gamer.
Change and dress Chook, Strawberry and Ooffa.
7:30am Breakfast over!
Kitchen: Wash up, wipe sides and highchairs.
Brush teeth.
Wipe over bathroom and toilet.

I love getting up early in the morning before the kids. It is quiet and peaceful! If I have time after prep and before the kids I like to sit with a cup of tea and catch up with hubby before he leaves for work @ 6am.

I have found that if we are to get out of the door @ 8am (on my work days) then breakfast must be over by 7:30am. I have also found that if we are done by 7:30am I can get them outside to play quickly and with the warmer weather coming this will be a blessing for getting things done!

I used to try and get up at 5am and go for a walk but for several reasons this wasn't happening. One day I sat down and had a good heart-to-heart with myself. I DO want to exersise but just find it so difficult to find the time with 3-under-3. I realised I had to find something that would provide exersise for me and include the children.

I thought of walking but obstacles such as, not being able to go far enough because of Chook's little legs, Strawberry and Ooffa sitting in their pram for half-an-hour and not letting off energy keep popping up. It had to be something I would stick at.

Then it hit me! Bike riding. I love riding my bike and with the trailer attached for Strawberry and Ooffa we could really go places. I could even take them to Daycare by bike (on a non-working day) and get exersise doing something I'd ordinarily use the car for. Take them to the park even!

I got very excited about the possibilities bike riding could offer and then I realised my old bike just wasn't going to cut it. After discussing it with my wonderful hubby, we went to the bike shop and picked out a bike. I went with a small mens bike due to the angle that the WeeRide would have been on a ladies bike. When we got it home Triple T Dad put the WeeRide on (Chook's seat) and attached the trailer.
Morning Routine

I've had it for over a week now and have taken the kids out 4 times! Twice I have had to contend with the wind but the bike has been a dream to ride and pulls all that weight beautifully!

  1. I loved reading about your routine Amie! You get up so early...i have been trying to get into this same routine for months now but never seem to manage it consistently even though i know if i am going to fit some exercise in this has to be the time!
The walking with the pram hasn't been working for me either...i love the bike idea...have often seen those little carriages and wondered how hard they are to pull? Well done you...and you have inspired me to try the getting up earlier than the girls thing again too!!Thanks for sharing your morning!

    1. Hi Jode. Thanks for stopping by! I am really trying to be consistent with getting up this early, as the benefits of getting stuff done is huge, but the ability to get up early is dependent upon the time I go to bed at night! I really need at least 8 hours to function the next day. Oh and if I have a night time wake-up it all goes out the window! Just another thing in the life of us twin Mummy's, hey?!?

  2. Wow! you're amazing! :)
I can't wait to be able to start my day at the same time again...and I do feel a little guilty being woken by a bleary eyed toddler by my bed... albeit at 6am!!
I also really LOVE that weerider! What a fabulous contraption! :) :) Will have to look into those..and I'm thinking of asking to borrow a friends trailer! Keep up the great work!

  3. Hi Amie, I just saw your gorgeous bedroom photo on the Organised Housewife page. What a lovely place to retreat to when the day is over! Can you tell me what colour the wall behind your bed is painted? Anna

  4. Are you still getting much use out of the wee rider! I've heard good things and wonder if we would do something similar. Also, any reviews on a trailer? Not too hard work? Wondering if riding would work better for me ;)

    1. The trailer has been great! I live at the bottom of a small hill and I am riding the kids up it all the time, with no problems. I have slacked off a bit recently but I should get back into it!
